A few weeks ago on CBS Sunday Morning, Denali and I watched a story about author Dean Koontz and his golden retriever named Trixie, a CCI retired service dog. We both loved the story so I wrote him a letter about Denali and I looking for some advice. Yesterday, Denali was very thoughtful and barked very loudly when the mailman was outside the door and continued to do so along with whining and dancing. I suddenly realized that Denali was subconsciously trying to tell me that the mailman left something at the door. To my surprise, I found a package in the door from author Dean Koontz. Enclosed was a personal letter from Dean along with his book ‘A Big Little Life’, book about his life with Trixie and personal inscription in the book to Denali and I. Thank You, Dean Koontz!
They say April showers bring May flowers. Well, it’s almost May and Denali and I have just about had it with the rain. I’m sure some dogs love the rain, but Denali is not one of them. Normally in the morning he has no problems running out the door to sniff about, visit mother nature, and start the day. However, if it just happens to be raining, which it has been for the past two weeks, Denali just stands in the doorway and refuses to go out. So, being a concerned mother, I found Denali an umbrella hat to offer him some comfort in the rain. Have a fabulous week everyone!
Denali may be a little bit larger than the average Easter bunny and not a fan of carrots, but I thought this would look really cute. So, with milk chocolate Easter eggs and colorful jelly beans on our mind, Denali and I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter!
Denali rules my household, numerous people have told me that Denali has amazing powers over me. Yes, he is my only child and it’s funny the things you do to keep them happy. When Denali was younger, he was never allowed on the couch. Now that he’s a bit older and wiser, it seems he no longer has rules and does everything that he wants to. Sunday morning while I was making my morning espresso on the stove, I looked over into my family room and noticed Denali climbing onto my couch. I stood in the doorway staring in amazement, with a smile on my face watching Denali pace in circles on my love seat until he found a comfy position to snuggle deep into. Yep, Denali is king of my house!
Today is opening day for the Toledo Mud Hen’s, our local minor league baseball team who are affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. Denali and I are not huge baseball fans and would rather watch a fun Italian game of Bocce instead of baseball. Well, I’d be watching and Denali would be chasing the balls. So to be more accepting of all sports, and to get Denali in the baseball mood, I borrowed a jersey from a friend and took him down to the stadium for a photo. Have a great weekend everyone and let’s play ball!
Every March thru April fishermen flock to the Maumee River in Maumee, Ohio for the annual Maumee River Walleye Run. Denali has never fished for walleye and neither have I, but I’m sure he’d probably have fun trying. Saturday morning while on our walk along the the river, I had Denali strike a pose with some of the fishermen in the background. Have a great week everyone!
Denali and I are both vegetarians. Actually, I’m a vegetarian and I tell everyone that Denali is too, but I know deep in my heart that he’s not. When we visit my parents and my father is grilling, Denali is always at his side. It does not matter if it’s raining, snowing, or extremely windy outside, you will always find Denali on his best behavior observing my dad’s grilling technique. Finally, when my father removes the meat and we’re sitting at the dinner table, Denali includes himself. His favorite spot is standing next to my father with his head resting in my dad’s lap as he eats. Then through dinner my dad is yelling at me, “I want peace while I eat.” I respond back, “Dad, he’s a vegetarian. Don’t worry, he won’t eat it.” I love you Denali!!
I was working in Detroit over the weekend and accompanying me was Denali, my photo assistant. When we drove down Jefferson, I noticed the huge Joe Louis arm sculpture on the corner of Woodward that was featured in this years Chrysler Super Bowl commercial. I have passed this sculpture hundreds of times, but on this occasion Denali was with me. Well, I parked the Jeep illegally on Jefferson, grabbed Denali’s leash, and we ran. Actually, Denali pulled me in record speed towards the sculpture. After giving Denali a short lecture and wishing I would have worn my running shoes instead of clogs, I plopped Denali next to the arm for a quick photo. Have a great day everyone!
